چکیده
This work reports the optical properties of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure towards a refractive index sensor. The MIM-SPR operating near infrared region consists lateral periodicity subwavelength gold patterns placed stack thin silica spacer and silver film (acting as reflector) silicon substrate. reflection spectra electric field distributions structures can be tuned by modifying geometrical have been numerically investigated using Lumerical’s finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) solutions. square lattice configuration 1200 nm to 1400 pitch micro-disks thickness from 80 120 conducted. size these considered patterns, i.e., diameter is in range 900 1000 nm. proposed possessing sensitivity 370 per unit (RIU), applicable for wide variety plasmonic sensing, particular refractometric biosensors.

Refractive Index Sensor Based on Fano Resonances in Metal-Insulator-Metal Waveguides Coupled with Resonators
A surface plasmon polariton refractive index sensor based on Fano resonances in metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguides coupled with rectangular and ring resonators is proposed and numerically investigated using a finite element method. Fano resonances are observed in the transmission spectra, which result from the coupling between the narrow-band spectral response in the ring resonator and the ...
متن کاملNear-field visualization of strongly confined surface plasmon polaritons in metal-insulator-metal waveguides.
A nanoscale gap between two metal surfaces can confine propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) to very small dimensions, but this geometry makes it inherently difficult to image SPP propagation at high resolution. We demonstrate the near-field probing of these SPPs, propagating within a 50 nm thick Si 3N 4 waveguide with Ag cladding layers for frequencies ranging from the blue to the near...
متن کاملGeneration of infrared surface plasmon resonances with high refractive index sensitivity utilizing tilted fiber Bragg gratings.
We demonstrate the use of tilted fiber gratings to assist the generation of localized infrared surface plasmons with short propagation lengths and a sensitivity of dlambda/dn = 3,365 nm in the aqueous index regime. It was also found that the resonances could be spectrally tuned over 1,000 nm at the same spatial region with high coupling efficiency (in excess of 25 dB) by altering the polarizati...
متن کاملSurface States, Surface Metal-Insulator, and Surface Insulator-Metal Transitions ∗
I present an informal discussion of various cases where two-dimensional surface metal-insulator structural and charge-density-wave instabilities driven by partly filled surface states have been advocated. These include reconstructions of clean semiconductor surfaces and of W(100) and Mo(100), as well as anomalies on the hydrogen-covered surfaces H/W(110) and H/Mo(110), and possibly alkali-cover...
متن کاملAnalysis of surface plasmon waves in metaldielectric- metal structures and the criterion for negative refractive index.
Surface plasmon waves in metal-dielectric-metal structures have been theoretically examined. Because of the existence of evanescent waves that can have comparable or smaller decay rates than the propagating waves, the sign of dispersion does not necessarily indicate the sign of effective refractive index for these structures. By using the direction of energy decay to distinguish the sign of ind...
